What to Expect When Getting Dental Sealants at Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Shah will first examine your child's teeth to check areas of the teeth that need dental sealant. Next, she’ll clean the teeth to remove plaque, debris, and food particles to allow proper adhesion of the dental sealant. She’ll then isolate the affected teeth with a rubber dam to keep them dry throughout the process.
Dr. Shah will then apply a mild etching solution on the surface of the teeth, increasing the surface area for adhesion with the sealant material. She’ll then rinse all of the acid of the teeth and dry the teeth, readying the teeth for sealant applications.
Once dried, Dr. Shah will apply the dental sealant on the chewing surfaces of the enamel of the teeth. The sealant is a liquid composite resin that dries quickly on application. After applying the sealant, Dr. Shah will cure the sealant with a special curing light. Once hardened, she’ll do a final evaluation and give you instructions for caring for the sealant.
