In most cases, children experience little to no sensation as their tooth is getting numb. The anesthetic agent is delivered in a precisely measured and controlled manner so that the traditional sting of numbing is avoided. During the procedure, the tooth is comfortable, without the cheek or lip feeling fat or strange. After the procedure, some kids may sense that it feels “woody” around the tooth, or that the tooth feels a little different until it wakes up, but there is no pesky or annoying fat cheek or lip to bother them. They can even go out for a big lunch after that procedure – the risk of drooling, cheek or lip bite is gone.
Yes! The SOAN is specifically designed and FDA approved for use in children. The actual anesthesia agents used are the same traditional agents that have been used in medicine and dentistry for decades. However, the device, delivery mechanism, and technique impart the anesthetic in a new, profound, and comfortable way for kids. Sorry, mom and dad, there is no SOAN on the market for adults, yet!
