Comfortable Dental Anesthesia in San Francisco

What is Electronic-Delivery Dental Anesthesia?

dental sealants San Francisco

Electronic-Delivery Dental Anesthesia is an innovative pain management delivery system that minimizes discomfort during dental procedures. This child-friendly device allows the dentist to get a tooth quickly and profoundly numb. The device looks like a thermometer, instead of something pokey or scary. The delivery of numbing is close to, if not imperceptible. Most kids do not even realize that their tooth has been numbed, they just experience comfort throughout the procedure. Our SOAN system makes dental visits less stressful for children who may be nervous about needles or “shots.” Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry is one of the few offices to provide this comfortable option to their patients. Our gentle approach creates a more relaxing experience and helps children stay calm while getting the dental care they need.

Quick and Effective

Soan local anesthesia works immediately upon administration, minimizing the time your child is waiting in the chair and resulting in faster appointments for you. There's no lingering numbness afterward, so children can return to their normal activities immediately. No need to worry about your child accidentally biting their cheek or lip after a procedure, and no need to skip or delay mealtime after the procedure. This allows our busy families to resume their normal activities for the day faster.

What does SOAN Dental Anesthesia feel like?

In most cases, children experience little to no sensation as their tooth is getting numb. The anesthetic agent is delivered in a precisely measured and controlled manner so that the traditional sting of numbing is avoided. During the procedure, the tooth is comfortable, without the cheek or lip feeling fat or strange. After the procedure, some kids may sense that it feels “woody” around the tooth, or that the tooth feels a little different until it wakes up, but there is no pesky or annoying fat cheek or lip to bother them. They can even go out for a big lunch after that procedure – the risk of drooling, cheek or lip bite is gone.

Is SOAN safe for children?

Yes! The SOAN is specifically designed and FDA approved for use in children. The actual anesthesia agents used are the same traditional agents that have been used in medicine and dentistry for decades. However, the device, delivery mechanism, and technique impart the anesthetic in a new, profound, and comfortable way for kids. Sorry, mom and dad, there is no SOAN on the market for adults, yet!

How do I know if the SOAN Dental Anesthesia is right for my child?

Dr. Shah will carefully evaluate your child's specific needs, including their age, the type of procedure needed, and their baseline comfort level. We have found that for children who have experienced traditional numbing, and then had numbing via the SOAN, ALL preferred the SOAN experience, without exception. It has been a game changer for us and our patients, working well for all our dental procedures that have required numbing, and especially helpful for children who are anxious about needles. We know you want the best experience for your child, and we are happy to say the SOAN helps us deliver!
