fun!
Watch your child enjoy their favorite, parent-approved TV shows while they get their teeth polished.
Kids pick the flavors they like best for their cleaning and fluoride treatment. We have flavor-free options or the ability to customize their cleaning using toothpaste they bring from home for picky or sensitive smiles. For treatments, kids can select a yummy custom “ice cream” scent for their air, promoting a sense of fun, safety, and calm.
Be silly and smile. Funky-shaped and bright-colored sunglasses get your child focused on fun for their dental exam.
You deserve relaxation too! Kick back in the parent's lounge with laptop stations and comfortable seating for quiet comfort.
Don’t you wish you still got goodie bags at your dental appointments? Watch your child fill a goodie bag with toys and stickers. These delightful memories will follow them into adulthood.
Dental offices don’t have to be sterile. Your child will feel right at home in exam rooms designed like a comfortable living room.
Did you know Buzz Lightyear comes in to administer general anesthesia? (No, we aren’t kidding!) Dental procedures are now an exciting opportunity for your little one to meet Buzz!
Our Tech, Your Kid’s Comfort.
Say goodbye to an old-fashioned dental experience! At Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry, we're all about keeping it fun and comfortable for your child.
We offer innovative technology such as nitrous oxide (also known as 'funny air' or 'ice cream air' – your child can even pick the flavor!), minimally invasive treatments and materials, laser treatments (coming soon!), and alternative tooth comfort and numbing techniques. Your child's comfort is our top priority, see how easy and enjoyable dentistry can be!
"The Whole World Opened To Me When I Learned to Read"
-Mary Mcleod Bethune
Giving Back to the Community.
Reading isn't just a fun pastime for kids – it's an essential building block for intelligence, creativity, and curiosity. At Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry, we're passionate about promoting a lifelong love of books. Early childhood literacy is a cause that is near and dear to Dr. Shah’s heart. As an avid reader herself, Dr. Shah began reading to her daughter as part of their nighttime routine when she was an infant. In the midst of their hectic schedules, the bedtime story routine became a promised and cherished time they both looked forward to.
As a parent, finding time in the day to lavish undivided attention on your child is difficult. Breast and bottle feedings promote health and bonding but as a child starts solid foods, nighttime feedings to help your child fall asleep can rapidly cause damaging decay. A bedtime ritual is a special dedicated time to give your child the time they need and crave. Just 15 minutes of daily reading lets your child know they are important to you and helps develop secure attachment. When coupled with nighttime feeding followed by toothbrushing, it also allows for a "wind-down" period after the toothbrushing that is a healthy alternative to feeding a child to sleep.
Children without regular access to books face disadvantages that are difficult to make up later in life. That's why Dr. Shah and Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry chose to partner with the Children's Book Project to advance childhood literacy in 3 ways:
For every 3 new patients that join the practice, Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry donates a new infant-appropriate board book to programs that support new moms such as the 5M Clinic at SFGH, SFDPH health clinics, the Bayview Pop-up, and many other organizations working with low-income parents.
Dr. Shah speaks with the Children's Book Project’s Read Aloud Program to train providers in early literacy interventions with new parents and supply books for 0-5-year-olds.
Mission Bay Pediatric Dentistry houses an on-site Book Drop for donations to the project. Bring your children’s gently loved books into our book drop and we will give them new life with a child or program that can use them.
